so i'm tired of the sick that has invaded our house, basically since like october! i think between october and now, we have had maybe 2 days where all 4 of us have been healthy at the same time, and that may even be too many days!
peyton is sick...and when a toddler who doesnt nap anymore is sick, its not pretty in the house. the baby willow having a horrible hacking cough and cold was less frustrating...peyton is just plain whiny and grouchy when he is sick. i feel awful for him, and feel like a bad mommy for saying this, but i just have a hard time having patience for his tantrums and meltdowns, even when he is sick.
i can put up with wiping running noses, and having extra cuddle time, but darn it...why wont he just take a nap when he is under the weather? i shouldnt have to take him for a ride in the car just to get him to fall asleep! dont most 2 1/2 year olds still nap? why wont mine?
sorry this was more of a rant...its 12:15 am, and i'm exhausted...i just needed to get that off my chest. goodnight!

sense of self
so i've been fighting with reclaiming my lost sense of self since becoming a mommy a few years ago. i felt trapped in this new persona of "mommy" for so long, and was really resentful for a long time. i felt like "worlds were colliding" to coin a seinfeld phrase or two..."independant angie" was at war with "mommy angie"...i was sad and mad and frustrated...i just wanted to be who i was before having kids for a little while sometimes.
now i am slowly starting to realize that that angie doesnt exist in her full form anymore at all...it wasnt a war all this time, but a morphing of myself....i can still claim some of my independance...i still have a creative spirit and felt really at home and content finally playing on stage a couple of sundays ago again after my latest maternity leave....but i am still mommy angie even when i am doing something for myself...and that is becoming more ok.
i'm not all the way to the point of letting a peace treaty be signed by the two angies, but they at least can have a cease fire most of the time. :) yay for self realization!

who knew?
so i have been thinking of all the things that i didnt know prior to becoming a mom, and i thought i'd share...
WHO KNEW that eating a blue popsicle would turn poop neon green? blue is my fave flavor, and i dont remember my poop ever being neon green, so who knew that it would do that to a toddlers poo?
WHO KNEW that your child learning to read would actually frustrate you sometimes? don't get me wrong, i am psyched that peyton is already learning to read and loves knowing what everything spells/says...but when you are trying to read bedtime stories, you dont want to spell every word in the stories!
WHO KNEW that the later your child goes to bed means that he will get up even earlier than normal? when i go to bed late, i want to sleep in...not so when you are 2 apparently!
WHO KNEW that a 2 1/2 year old could become a video game addict? Peyton has taken over our game cube....its kinda crazy! I actually miss watching his shows, and i want to throw away the monkey ball game!
WHO KNEW that any anger you may have stored up for your toddler during the day is immediately ereased when you peek in on them sleeping peacefully in bed? i seriously can be just frustrated *up to here* with peyton, but then when i check in on him before i go to bed and pull up his covers, and see him cuddling his "ma-doggie" sound asleep, my heart just melts.
WHO KNEW that the first time your child says, "I love you mama", unprompted, you will die a little inside? never have the words "i love you" meant more to me than hearing them come from my son, just because....sorry jeff ;)
WHO KNEW that it really is easier and shorter the second time through the baby stage? the first time through, with peyton, i thought he would never get out of the baby stage...now i cant believe how fast its all going with willow!
WHO KNEW that you will never have "adult" songs stuck in your head again; and that you will spontaniously break into a round of, "here's the mail, it never fails..." from blue's clues when you see the mail truck? and sometimes i do this when the kids arent even here...nuff said
WHO KNEW that spanking really DOES hurt the parent more than the child? i remember being spanked as a child, and my parents telling me that it hurts them more than it hurt me...i never believed them...until now...
WHO KNEW that you DO have the ability to CALMLY carry a huge diaper bag, a baby, and a screaming toddler who just threw a flat-on-the-floor-kicking-and-screaming-tantrum in the middle of a department store, out of the door and into the car? if any of you were in jcpenny's a few months ago on the west side of madison...yes, that was us...and of course murphy's law dictated that we were on the complete opposite side of the store from where we parked when it happened.
WHO KNEW that elevators and escalators are no longer fun for you, but can keep a two year old occupied and happy for an hour - especially at the mall of america? Peyton seriously enjoyed going up and down the four floors in the mall in the elevator and escalator for hours...at least its a free ride :)
WHO KNEW that your two year old little boy could be one of the sweetest people you know when he goes up to his baby sister and gives her a kiss and hands her a toy? Peyton has been amazing me with this lately...he is so sweet to Willow more often than not!
WHO KNEW that you would treasure any toy that doesnt involve bells, lights, sirens, or batteries more than the latest fad toy? prior to having kids, i would always "ooh and ahh" over the light up, noisy, obnoxious toy commercials....but now that i have kids, i cant wait to sell all those at a garage sale and enjoy the silence and imagination of wooden toys and stuffed animals and books.
well...i've gotta go watch the kids again so jeff can make dinner tonight...but i just wanted to let you all know of the new things i've come to realize in my 2 1/2 years as a mom.

a new year...a new blog
so after unsuccessfully trying to resurect my old blogger blog, i decided to start a new one...i hadnt blogged really since before i was pregnant with willow, so i might as well.
seeing as the kiddos are awake at the moment, there probably wont be too much to today's blog...sorry.
i realized that we are in a new generation of moms yesterday....or was it the day before...i cant remember...anyways...i was eating a bagel (gluten free of course) with one hand, rocking a baby in her carseat with my foot, and with the other hand i was beating a level of monkey ball that my 2 1/2 yr old cant beat....bet our moms never multitasked like that...lol
speaking of video games...my son, who is 2 1/2 yrs old, is way too good at monkey ball on the game cube...like seriously...jeff and i are thinking that he will be way better than us at it within a year or two at most...he can beat all but one level of the first world, and can beat 4 levels of world 2...its crazy! he's seriously getting some good hand/eye coordination going on here...its good...but now he wants to play video games all day long...so we are working on limiting that...he has more toys than a lot of daycares, and all he wants to do is play with our game cube and N64...lol
peyton just moved into a "big boy bed" this last week...i hauled the daybed up from the basement and put it together in his room...he picked out a truck comforter and sheets for it cuz i couldnt find a twin sized sesame street comforter that didnt have elmo as the main character. he loves his new big bed, and is sleeping great in it now! yay!
willow is a great sleeper...so different from peyton at this age! she almost always sleeps at least 7 hours...last night she slept for about 11! she's only 4 months old. i think her being formula fed makes a big difference...especially since we mix in rice cereal in her bottles to help her reflux.
anyways...i hope to start blogging more often, and probably more at night after the kiddos are in bed and i get more time to think. so see you all later!
